The EJDe of Reality: Jump into my World!

It all began on a drive out to UMASS Lowell for a Student Alumni conference in early February of this year. Aaron Horvitz, our current SAA president, was driving six of us out to UMASS when he saw a billboard for the Lady Gaga concert coming to Boston in July. In a way that only he can proclaim in his forever-exuberant personality, he said, “We’re going to that.” Now If anyone knows Aaron, he’s not one to back down from a challenge. So when someone doubted that he could get tickets to the show, we heard his all too familiar retort, “Say I won’t.” What can I say; Aaron is a man of his word.

  Here are the 13th row tickets he was able to snag for us before pre-sale (for free I might add), something that even the Massachusetts’s governor’s daughter wasn’t able to do. Well we had ourselves a great time. I’ll admit that I have listened to Gaga ever since her first single ‘Just Dance’ came out and was a little bit more fanatical about her than I should be comfortable with. I downloaded her first album from iTunes and learned all the words. Of course, then she got really popular (deservedly so), and I stepped back a bit, especially when tweenage girls (and effeminate men) started screaming about her. When I went to the concert, I still knew most of the song lyrics, but not for the some of the lesser known songs off her new album, The Fame Monster. Gaga is a great performer, I will give her that, but the concert did not quite live up to my expectations. Maybe it’s because my fanaticism is waning, or maybe I built it up in my head more than I should have. Either way, it was still a great performance, and I enjoyed literally being able to see the sweat on her body from where I was standing in the Garden. No really, look at these pictures. In the end, I would say that it was more of a performance than a concert, which I guess I should expect from a pop star. Overall, I would give it an 8 out of 10. If you have a chance to go, do it. Lady Gaga is a once in a lifetime performer and you won’t be sorry that you did. If you’ve ever seen Gaga in concert, what did you think of her?
